FMB NATIONAL AWARDS

To quote Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons in 1963 ‘Oh what a Night’, 18th February 2015, the venue is the Westminster Ballroom in The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel, location is downtown London SE1, the event the Master Builder of the Year Awards.

Sipping on champagne at the drinks reception, in this contemporary building with its spectacular views down the South Bank of the River Thames, directly facing Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and the London Eye, it all seemed quite surreal, surely it was only yesterday when we won the regionals in October 2014; here we were all again seeing how the Biocraft entry would fair in the prestigious FMB National Awards.

Although The Park Plaza Hotel is a relative newbie to London only opening in 2010, I was wondering if it had ever seen an event like this before, with nearly 600 fellow builders from across the length and breadth of the United Kingdom all gathered in one place to pay homage to their profession, their skill, and their craft.

It was a proud time to be a builder, but builders traditionally never take themselves too seriously, so the whole event was full of noise and fun, Frankie Valli would have fitted right in.

As always, the wait for the announcement seemed to take forever, when will you get to the Biocraft Heavenly Builder entry you are constantly asking? Then the announcement final comes, the winner of the FMB category for Heavenly builder is Hende Building Services, and what a worthy winner they were.

Hende built a wraparound extension with an open plan kitchen/lounge that would allow the whole family to be all together during the day with their daughter Emilie who had Hepatoblastoma, a form of liver cancer.

The work had to be carried out whilst Emilie was in hospital having chemotherapy, the time scale was achieved mainly by working through the night, all completed at below cost through the generosity of suppliers.

Although Biocraft was the runner up to this very worthy Heavenly Builder, it was still a great achievement. FMB did themselves proud by hosting an amazing event, of course there is always next year.
